The Storm Watch Zaun Deep Dive

Hello again everyone, my name is Storm or CTRL ULT ELITE back with another Storm Watch article for everyone to enjoy. If you have not heard of me, I am an Emerald Tank enjoyer who has played League for far too many years and is currently the top laner for Mint Spark in BOLE. I am the main writer for the Blue Otter League Emerald Division this split. I have been creating written content for the past few seasons. I have written for The Nameless, CCS, Aegis and BOL. In the past, I also wrote articles about Yugioh and Fantasy Hockey. I'm eager for feedback; feel free to DM me.

Today's article will focus on the Zaun division with an introduction to the last 8 of our 16 teams. If you missed it, my first article was a deep dive into the Piltover teams. These are my impressions from looking at every team's OP.GG, the stats from our league and any players I recognize from my time playing and writing in other leagues. The point total found at the bottom of every team is simple: the higher the score, the better, based on their current solo queue rank(as of my time writing this on the 22nd). A team of full emerald 4 players(what I consider average) is 25 points. The highest point team in BOLE is Mint OTS at 37 points(being an E2 average team).

After week 3, here are the results for Zaun. Every team in the Zaun division has at least won a series, and every team has lost a series, so no one will end this group undefeated. Zaun as a group is much stronger than Piltover. You can call it the group of death. I think 6 of the 8 teams in Piltover have a real shot at making playoffs the group is that tight. To showcase what I mean if you add up every team in Zaun the ELO point total is 243 bringing the group ELO average to Emerald 3. Piltover has a total ELO rating of 195 or an average Elo average of Platinum 1. The weakest team in Zaun ELO-wise is Paradox at 23 points(being just under an Emearld 4 average) and this team has a higher ELO average than half of the teams in Piltover. Zuan currently has 5 of 40 starting roster players in platinum(the lowest being plat 2) and no one in gold. In Piltover almost half of the main roster spots(42.55%) are taken by players below Emerald 4. There are 9 plat players and 8 gold players in Piltover. As such I think ranking the teams in Zaun is incredibly difficult and I doubt I will be able to predict the playoff picture.

Horizon Gaming

Overall Solo Que Number: 30

Overall Record: 1-2(11 Points) Tied for 5th with Conduit Jiji

Tier: C

Support: crackhead

Assessment

Horizon Gaming, though possessing a respectable point tally, grapples with fundamental challenges that hinder their progression. A glaring concern lies in the lack of stability within their roster, compounded by alarming statistical trends across the board. Notably, none of Horizon's core members exhibit early-game dominance, with only Exotic in the mid-lane showcasing sporadic glimpses of gold advantage.

Strengths

Amidst the turbulence, certain individual performances stand out as beacons of hope. Wheelchair JG, entrusted with the pivotal role of jungle engagement, navigates the tumult admirably. Despite the team's perennial underdog status, Wheelchair JG maintains a commendable KDA of 3.64, displaying resilience and tactical acumen. Meanwhile, Exotic's presence in the mid-lane injects vitality into Horizon's gameplay. Despite assuming a predominantly supportive role, Exotic boasts top-tier damage output and an enviable KDA of 4.25, offering a glimmer of promise amidst the chaos.

Weaknesses

However, Horizon's Achilles' heel lies in their failure to establish a cohesive bot lane partnership. A revolving door of ADCs and supports has eroded the team's synergy, resulting in disjointed drafts and lackluster performances. Equally concerning is the inconsistency plaguing YOUR4LLPIGS in the top lane. Despite flashes of brilliance, they grapple with an overconfident playstyle, often overextending and falling victim to punishing counterattacks. With a distressing 1.27 KDA and a penchant for risky blind picks, YOUR4LLPIGS must temper their aggression and adopt a more measured approach to gameplay.

Path to Redemption

For Horizon Gaming to transcend their current predicament, concerted efforts must be made to address these underlying issues. Cultivating stability within the bot lane and fostering synergy among teammates are imperative steps towards revitalizing their campaign. Moreover, YOUR4LLPIGS must undergo a paradigm shift, embracing a more conservative playstyle while capitalizing on their strengths in moments of advantage.

Monkeys Emerald

Overall Solo Que Number: 30

Overall Record: 1-2(9  Points)

Tier: B

Top: :Glada#NA1

Jungle: PacaPaul#NA1

In the tumultuous landscape of the Blue Otter League Emerald Amateur, Monkeys Emerald emerges as a team embarking on a journey fraught with challenges and uncertainties. Tasked with replacing the formidable READKTED TEAM, they inherit a daunting legacy, compounded by a rocky start to their campaign with just 3 points in week 3. Straddling the line between potential and uncertainty, Monkeys Emerald navigates the competitive arena with a roster characterized by role swaps and unorthodox compositions.

Assessment

Monkeys Emerald embodies the epitome of an underdog, grappling with the inherent difficulties of integrating new players and adapting to a volatile meta. With two junglers alternating into off-role top lane positions and a mid laner with a diverse background in top lane and ADC roles, they face an uphill battle in establishing cohesion and synergy within the team. Despite these challenges, Monkeys Emerald holds the potential to disrupt the status quo and carve out a niche for themselves amidst the chaos.

Strengths

In their inaugural showing during week 1, Monkeys Emerald showcased flashes of brilliance, buoyed by standout performances from key players. Foremost among them is acbalough, whose stellar showing in the mid lane catapulted them to the pinnacle of the league rankings. Boasting an unparalleled damage output of 1300 damage per minute, acbalough emerges as a formidable force, single-handedly dictating the tempo of engagements and carrying the team to victory. Alongside them, Antion in the ADC role demonstrates resilience and tenacity, holding their own against formidable opponents and maintaining a commendable KDA amidst adversity. Furthermore, Pacapaul's strategic prowess in the jungle, coupled with adept support play, underscores the team's potential for growth and development.

Weaknesses

However, Monkeys Emerald's ascent is not without its stumbling blocks. The prevalence of off-role players raises concerns regarding champion pool depth and adaptability, leaving the team vulnerable to strategic exploitation and targeted bans. Furthermore, PyrimadBoy's struggles in the support role expose a glaring vulnerability, with a propensity for overextension and susceptibility to unfavorable matchups. Similarly, Glada's lackluster performances in the top lane highlight the team's struggles to establish a cohesive presence on the map, necessitating a reevaluation of their strategic approach and individual contributions.

Path to Progression

For Monkeys Emerald to transcend their current limitations and realize their full potential, concerted efforts must be made to address these underlying weaknesses. Prioritizing champion pool diversity and refining individual mechanics are imperative steps towards establishing a formidable presence on the Rift. Additionally, fostering open communication and synergy among teammates is crucial in navigating the intricacies of competitive play and overcoming adversities as a unified force.

Mint Spark

Overall Solo Que Number: 33

Overall Record: 2-1(15 Points) 1st Overall

Tier: A

Assessment

Mint Spark's strategic ethos is readily discernible upon a cursory examination of their roster composition. With tanky stalwarts in the top lane, aggressive carry junglers, and potent AP threats in the mid lane, supplemented by a flexible and versatile bot lane duo adept at capitalizing on meta fluctuations, Mint Spark embodies a multifaceted approach to the game. However, despite their impressive individual rankings and burgeoning KDA statistics, Mint Spark remains an enigma, untested against formidable adversaries and plagued by uncertainties in their early performances.

Strengths

Undoubtedly, Mint Spark's most notable asset lies in the collective prowess of its players, each of whom occupies a coveted position within the league's top echelons. Spearheaded by Albino Sun Bear, boasting the highest KDA in the league, and bolstered by the formidable presence of KTL, Mint Spark exudes dominance and precision in their engagements. Their penchant for swift, decisive victories is evidenced by their immaculate record since the inception of their current roster, with each triumph underscored by a clinical display of teamwork and coordination. Moreover, Mint Spark's meticulous control over objectives, evidenced by their adept dragon and Void Grub management, speaks volumes about their strategic acumen and map awareness.

Weaknesses

However, for all their accolades and achievements, Mint Spark remains vulnerable to the specter of uncertainty and untested waters. Their initial setbacks with the former roster and the absence of matchups against statistically formidable opponents raise questions about their ability to perform under pressure and adapt to unforeseen challenges. Furthermore, weak creep score statistics in the solo lanes hint at potential vulnerabilities in laning phase efficiency, necessitating a concerted effort to shore up weaknesses and refine individual mechanics.

Paradox

Overall Solo Que Number: 23

Overall Record: 1-2(10 Points) 7th Overall

Tier: C

Jungle:Ip Lok#NA1

Support: La Belle#Joli

In the tumultuous domain of the Blue Otter League Emerald Amateur, Paradox emerges as a team ensnared in the throes of adversity, struggling to defy the odds and carve a path to success within the unforgiving confines of the Zaun division. With a lackluster standing at 7th place and a paltry ELO rating, they face an uphill battle in their quest for playoff contention, compounded by a series of disappointing performances that underscore their precarious position within the league hierarchy.

Assessment

Paradox finds themselves mired in mediocrity, with scant evidence of a breakthrough looming on the horizon. Despite their valiant efforts, they remain shackled by a litany of shortcomings, perpetuating a cycle of underachievement and unfulfilled potential. Their inability to secure victories against formidable opponents like Horizon Gaming serves as a sobering reminder of the arduous journey that lies ahead.

Strengths

Amidst the gloom, glimmers of resilience emerge from the shadows, embodied by the steadfast resolve of IP Lok. Despite the team's recurrent struggles, IP Lok maintains a steadfast commitment to securing objectives and contesting team fights, demonstrating unwavering determination in the face of adversity. Moreover, Paradox exhibits a commendable propensity for tenacity, refusing to concede defeat even in the direst of circumstances, exemplifying a fighting spirit that transcends the confines of the scoreboard.

Weaknesses

However, Paradox's ascent is hindered by a litany of individual shortcomings, as evidenced by lackluster statistics and a dearth of cohesive gameplay. Each player grapples with high death counts, subpar kill contributions, and a chronic deficit in gold income, undermining the team's ability to establish dominance in the laning phase. Moreover, a penchant for risky plays exacerbates their vulnerabilities, exposing them to the perils of overextension and strategic exploitation. To transcend their current predicament, Paradox must prioritize individual improvement, fostering a culture of disciplined gameplay and strategic foresight.

Omega Wooper

Overall Solo Que Number: 28

Overall Record: 2-1(13 Points) 3rd Overall

Tier: A

Assessment

Omega Wooper's meteoric rise to prominence is emblematic of their unwavering commitment to excellence and their relentless pursuit of victory. Armed with a strategic playbook tailored to maximize the potential of their star-studded roster, they navigate the tumultuous waters of competitive play with finesse and precision, leaving a trail of vanquished foes in their wake.

Strengths

At the heart of Omega Wooper's success lies their indomitable bot lane duo, Mordstreich and Sixela66, whose collective prowess borders on the legendary. Mordstreich's unparalleled dominance on the Rift cements their status as a force to be reckoned with, boasting staggering statistics that rival the league's most formidable adversaries. With a penchant for securing kills and dictating the tempo of engagements, Mordstreich emerges as the linchpin of Omega Wooper's success, propelling them to victory with unwavering ferocity. Additionally, the return of Paynless to the jungle role injects a newfound sense of consistency and strategic versatility into the team's lineup, providing invaluable engage options and bolstering their tactical flexibility.

Weaknesses

Despite their undeniable prowess, Omega Wooper grapples with vulnerabilities that threaten to undermine their dominance. Ishan and Gyser, tasked with shouldering the burden of the mid and top lanes respectively, falter in the face of adversity, their lackluster performances exposing chinks in the team's armor. Struggling to assert dominance in their respective lanes, Ishan and Gyser often find themselves outpaced and outmaneuvered, unable to provide the necessary support for Mordstreich's late-game carry potential. Moreover, their inconsistency in securing advantages leaves Omega Wooper susceptible to mid-game collapses, necessitating a concerted effort to shore up their individual deficiencies and fortify their strategic foundations.

Path to Victory

To maintain their stranglehold on the Zaun division and ascend to the pinnacle of BOLE glory, Omega Wooper must address these vulnerabilities with urgency and resolve. Emphasizing disciplined laning strategies and proactive map movements is imperative in mitigating the impact of early deficits and fostering a more cohesive team dynamic. Additionally, empowering Ishan and Gyser to assert dominance in their respective lanes is crucial in unlocking the full potential of Omega Wooper's strategic playbook and solidifying their position as undisputed champions of the Blue Otter League Emerald Amateur.

Final Boss Esports

Overall Solo Que Number: 33

Overall Record: 2-1(14 Points) 2nd Overall

Tier: B

Jungle:Zetta#NA1

Assessment

Final Boss Esports defies convention with their unorthodox approach to champion selection, eschewing established meta picks in favor of individual strengths and unconventional compositions. This daring strategy, coupled with a relentless aggression on the Rift, positions them as a wildcard force to be reckoned with, capable of unsettling even the most seasoned adversaries with their unpredictable gameplay.

Strengths

The hallmark of Final Boss's success lies in their innovative drafting style, spearheaded by Zetta in the jungle and AlyXO in the mid-lane. Zetta's proficiency on carry-oriented junglers such as Shyvana, Shaco, and Udyr imbues the team with a formidable early-game presence, enabling swift snowballing and decisive map control. Meanwhile, AlyXO's versatility in the mid-lane, showcasing a diverse array of champions ranging from assassins to poke mages, keeps opponents guessing and ensures adaptability in any situation. Additionally, The Shaqtus in the top lane and Faulteh and Spicy Tuna Fish in the bot lane exemplify this ethos of flexibility and adaptability, seamlessly transitioning between unconventional picks and traditional ADC compositions with finesse and precision.

Weaknesses

Despite their formidable aggression and innovative drafting, Final Boss grapples with inconsistencies that threaten to undermine their dominance on the Rift. Their propensity for all-out assaults results in a swingy gameplay style, characterized by high kill and death counts that leave little room for error. Moreover, roster issues and a lack of individual standout performers contribute to an overall statistical discrepancy, with low KDAs and middling damage outputs reflecting the team's struggles to find cohesion amidst the chaos.

Conduit Esports Jiji

Overall Solo Que Number: 30

Overall Record: 1-2(11 Points) Tied for 5th with Horizon Gaming

Tier: B

Jungle:Chris#zzzz

Assessment

Conduit Esports Jiji's journey thus far has been characterized by valiant efforts and near misses, as evidenced by their string of closely contested series that extend to three games each. Despite their undeniable talent and potential, they find themselves locked in a perpetual struggle to break free from the shackles of mediocrity and ascend to the upper echelons of the league standings.

Strengths

Amidst the trials and tribulations, Conduit Esports Jiji draws strength from the individual brilliance of their standout performers. Czi, hailed as one of the premier top laners in the league, showcases versatility and proficiency across a diverse array of champions, wielding Gwen, Gnar, and Ornn with equal mastery. Likewise, Canela Tea's dominance in the mid lane, underscored by impressive KDA and damage output statistics, cements their status as a force to be reckoned with on the Rift. Furthermore, Chris's prowess in the jungle, exemplified by gold differentials and strategic acumen, provides invaluable momentum and map control, while Shifti's consistency and resilience in the ADC role fortify the team's late-game potential and teamfighting prowess.

Weaknesses

Despite the individual brilliance of their players, Conduit Esports Jiji grapples with deficiencies in objective control and cohesive team play. Their inability to secure dragon souls and capitalize on baron buffs underscores a critical weakness in their strategic approach, leaving them vulnerable to late-game swings and strategic exploitation by their opponents. Moreover, their reliance on individual heroics to secure victories highlights a lack of synergy and coordination within the team, necessitating a concerted effort to foster a more cohesive and collaborative playstyle.

Path to Redemption

To overcome their current setbacks and realize their full potential, Conduit Esports Jiji must address these weaknesses with urgency and resolve. Emphasizing objective control and coordinated map movements is imperative in maximizing their strategic advantage and capitalizing on opportunities as they arise. Moreover, fostering open communication and synergy among teammates is crucial in fostering a more cohesive team dynamic and unlocking the full potential of their collective talents.

Mint OTS

Overall Solo Que Number: 37

Overall Record: 2-1(4th) 13 Points

Tier: B

Support: Tuchi#NA1

Assessment

Mint OTS's ascent to prominence is underpinned by their unwavering commitment to scaling compositions and strategic foresight. With an average game time that eclipses that of every other team in BOLE, hovering around the 35-minute mark, they demonstrate a penchant for patience and meticulous planning, eschewing early-game aggression in favor of long-term strategic advantages. However, despite their proficiency in scaling compositions, they grapple with vulnerabilities that threaten to undermine their dominance, namely in their vision control around neutral objectives and early-game prowess.

Strengths

Mint OTS's strategic approach to team composition affords them a wealth of advantages in the late game, highlighted by their exemplary CS totals and individual performance metrics. Brother Otter and Brutzz lead the charge, boasting impressive CS per game totals and vying for top positions in damage output statistics. Moreover, their adeptness in securing neutral objectives, such as the dragon soul and Void Grubs, underscores their strategic acumen and ability to capitalize on strategic opportunities. With victories in three series, Mint OTS establishes themselves as legitimate contenders in the league, poised to challenge even the most formidable adversaries on the Rift.

Weaknesses

Despite their strengths, Mint OTS grapples with deficiencies in their vision control around Baron Buff and early-game execution. Their inability to secure Baron Buffs in the majority of their games, coupled with a lackluster performance in the early game, leaves them vulnerable to early deficits and strategic exploitation by their opponents. Moreover, their predictability in draft strategy poses a significant challenge, as opponents can easily counter their scaling compositions with early-game aggression and strategic flexibility. Roster issues further compound their challenges, as they struggle to establish cohesion and synergy as a full team.
